Yes, we are a university-based research project, but we are more than that! Our Co-Pd Dr. Cynthia Bartel, is working on a farm-based trial of silage corn and alfalfa perennial groundcover with 6th-generation dairy farmer Adam Hurtgen on his southeastern Wisconsin family dairy farm.
The Hurtgenlea Holsteins Experimental Alfalfa-corn Intercropping System trial is supported by a Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program grant as well as funding from our program. Their trials have yielded a lot of data, and they are continuing to gather more. SARE worked with them to create this video, which tells a fantastic story of on-farm innovation.
